第一集是Flemish北方复兴，提到了很多德国、荷兰画家。第二集基本属于文艺复兴正统理论，它没有复兴古希腊，也没有启蒙近代思想，而归根结底就是给不识字的普罗大众通过图画和雕塑来讲故事，来展现不可思议的事物，来了解天主教的思想。第三四集比较别致，不同于以往的纪录片，威尼斯的玻璃和丝绸、天堂地狱和罪恶以及文艺复兴后期的超现实主义，尽管前面说到艺术是为了展现和传播美和信仰，但是在瘟疫来袭的时候，艺术更是一种抒发信念的手段。文艺复兴是时代的产物，也在时代中走向终结。
